Bilingual network for U.S.-based Latinos Tr3s: MTV, Música y Más and Tomas Cookman, the founder of the indie label Nacional Records, are joining forces to create a new program, "La Hora Nacional," featuring alternative Latin artists for the late night TV audience.
The weekly show, starting July 16 at 12 a.m. (PST)/3 a.m. (ET), will be curated by Cookman who is also the founder of the Latin Alternative Music Conference, a gathering which continues in New York City this week and through the weekend.
"While Latin alternative artists have been supported by MTV for years now, we are excited about a new focused program that will highlight rising stars as well as iconic acts across various genres," said Cookman in a statement. "As the U.S. Latino demographic continues to evolve, it's essential for such prominent outlets to recognize the tremendous amount of groundbreaking talent which often do not receive as much attention from the mainstream Latin media."
The new program will feature new acts such as Bomba Estereo and Los Rakas and established bands such as Los Fabulosos Cadillacs.
Marc Zimet, vice president of Music and Talent for Tr3s and MTV Networks Latin America, says that Cookman's participation will bring credibility to the programming which will reach viewers on TV and online.
