Bandsintown, a popular service for tracking and discovering concerts, has been acquired by mobile developer and publisher Cellfish Media for an undisclosed sum.
The deal will help Bandsintown acquire a larger audience by taking advantage of Cellfish's strengths and breadth. Cellfish, formely Cellfish Media, has connections to 75 mobile carriers through 10 aggregators, has partnerships with over 125 of the world's leading operators, media and brands. It is headquarter in New York and has offices in Los Angeles, Paris, Montreal and Dusseldorf.
"This acquisition takes Cellfish one step closer to fulfilling our vision to develop and distribute the most innovative mobile and social applications aimed at music, sports and entertainment fans," said Fabrice Sergent, founder and CEO of Cellfish, in a statement. "We will continue to invest in our development and distribution capabilities both through organic initiatives as well as further potential acquisitions."
San Diego-based Bandsintown provides a concert listening service that easily allows music fans to easily track their favorite bands' live shows in their home town. The service's concert API is used by the likes of Shazam, eMusic, SoundHound, RootMusic, ReverbNation, all four majors labels and many independents. It operates in the same space as UK-based Songkick, another concert listings service that pushes out its information to partners services.
Bandsintown can be accessed at both its website and through its Facebook app. As of September 14, the company's app was the fifth most-popular music app on Facebook with 3.27 million monthly average users in the previous 30 days, according to AppData.
