Valery Zeitoun, French Industry Veteran, Leaves Universal Music France Label AZ

Valery Zeitoun, managing director of Universal Music France's record label AZ, has left the company as of last Thursday, a press release signed by Universal France's President Pascal Nègre confirmed.

Zeitoun, 45, is a well-known personality of the music industry, especially since he participated as a jury member of TV show "Popstars" on French national channel M6 in 2002.

Since 2002, Zeitoun had been heading AZ, home to international acts such as U2 or Amy Winehouse, but also to successful breakthrough local artists such as Chimene Badi or Grand Corps Malade.

While the press release did not mention the reason of Zeitoun's departure, sources indicate that a recent dispute with another Universal France exec, added to AZ lack of results in the past years, led to this decision.

Pascal Nègre wrote he would personally manage AZ until the end of 2011.
