Merlin CEO Charles Caldas on Growth of Indie Labels, Changing Music Industry in a Digital World (Video)

Charles Caldas, CEO of global rights agency Merlin which works with independent record labels to protect their digital rights online, stopped by after his Billboard FutureSounds panel titled "Cost of Content" to share his views on the future of the music industry and the issues involved with getting consumers to engage in the monetized part of the digital market.

Caldas talked about Spotify being the largest example of a company using the digital marketplace to drive up the scale and engagement of their model and getting new consumers into the monetized section of the marketplace. He also discussed the rise of independent labels, which are growing faster and adapting quicker than ever before to the digital market, benefiting from an industry no longer dominated by television or commercial radio to get the word out about new bands.
