Colombian star Juanes will tape an "MTV Unplugged" special in Miami next February. The special will be produced by TR3s: MTV, Musica y Más, MTV's U.S. Hispanic network, and will air both in the U.S. and throughout Latin America. In a twist, the musical director of the event and the album producer will be Dominican star Juan Luis Guerra, a good friend of Juanes.
The pair, who have often performed and collaborated together, had discussed the possibility of Guerra producing a Juanes album for several months, according to Guerra's manager. The Juanes "Unplugged" album will be released by Universal Music Latino.
The special is set to tape at the New World Center in Miami Beach with guest artists and repertoire still to be announced.
TR3s' most recent Unplugged set was Los Tigres del Norte and Friends, which was taped early this year in Los Angeles and released in the Spring on Fonovisa. The album is currently at No. 20 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart.
Jose Tillan and Charlie Singer will serve as Executive Producers of the Juanes Unplugged and Marc Zimet as Executive in Charge of Music Talent for Tr3s: MTV, Música y Más. Ivan Dudynsky will serve as Director alongside Production Designer Anton Goss and Lighting Director Tom Kenny.
In other Juanes news, the artist has signed for management with Rebeca León, VP of Latin Talent for AEG/Golden Voice. Juanes will now be handled by León jointly with Randy Phillips as part of AEG's management arm.
