Warner Music France announced yesterday the relaunch of East West imprint in France. Starting in February 2012, the label will focus primarily on developing urban and alternative acts.
The label will be managed by Stephane Espinosa, the founder of independent label 3eme Bureau (Wagram), launched in 2007 and home to breakthrough local artists such as Pony Pony Run Run, Orelsan (whose second album went gold) and Brigitte (whose debut went platinum in 2011).
Espinosa has some familiarity with the label: He began his career 21 years ago by handling East West promotion for such artists as Dr Dre or Snoop Dog.
Created in 1955 by Atlantic Records in the U.S., East West has been the home of artists such as Simply Red and AC/DC. The label was closed in France in 2004.
Warner Music France CEO Thierry Chassagne welcomed Espinosa in a statement expressing his confidence that "with his team, he will be able to revive East West France with talent."
