Less than a week after Live Nation's acquisition of BigChampagne was announced comes the news that former Warner Music digital exec Ethan Kaplan will be joining the company.
"And away we go. I landed!" Kaplan tweeted http://twitter.com/#!/ethank early today. "Happy to announce my new gig as VP Product at Live Nation," with a link leading to a Fast Company article announcing his appointment.
"We're extending what we know about people, relevant experiences--in this case, live events--and proximity for things happening near by you, and we're going to apply our real-time analytics engine to solving those fan problems," Garland says in the article. "Right now we're on the hunt for superstar talent in the product areas, and my first superstar is Ethan Kaplan, who looks like a walking Eric Ries book in black rim glasses."
Kaplan, a former SVP for emerging technologies at Warner Music Group who left the company in January, is highly regarded for being forward-thinking and acutely aware of technology trends. With the recent acquisition of media measurement firm BigChampagne, Kaplan joints a suddenly data-driven Live Nation intent on using analytics to drive revenue through improved customer experiences.
