The German ECHO classical music award ceremony will take place on Oct. 14 2012 at the Konzerthaus in Berlin. This was announced by the Deutsche Phonoakademie, the cultural institute of the German music Industry Association (BVMI).
It will be the third time that the show takes place in Berlin. "We are happy that after the very successful event in 2011 the upcoming ECHO classical award show will again take place at the Konzerthaus in Berlin. The cooperation with all partners worked out very well and we are convinced that again this year all participants will take care that the artists and guests will be at ease and will experience an impressive evening with an exclusive ambience", says Dr. Florian Drücke, managing director of the BVMI in a statement in Berlin.
The nomination phase for the 19th edition of the ECHO classical music awards start in March 2012. A definite date for the start will be announced beginning of February. Since 1996 the German TV channel ZDF is responsible for the TV-recording of the award show.
Every year the German Phonoakademie - the cultural institute of the German music industry association - honours the outstanding and successful performances of national and international artists with this award. "The ECHO Klassik was launched in 1994 as an event in its own right in order to do justice to the cultural importance of classical music and to further its popularity," said Drücke.
ECHO Klassik is awarded by a jury who make their choices based on artistic quality as well as popular success. The award of the ECHO Klassik therefore not only reflects the opinion of critics but also the appreciation of music consumers. ECHO Klassik prizewinners are determined by a judging panel made up of outstanding personalities from politics, the arts and media and the classical wing of the German music industry association.
