Songwriters Romero and Brant Win At SESAC Latina Awards

Joey Montana, the up-and-coming pop/urban act signed as an artist to Capitol Latin, won the songwriter of the year award at the SESAC Latina 2012 Music Awards, which took place June 20 at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles.

Montana won largely on the strength of his track "La Melodía" (Flow Con Clase/EMI Foray). Montana's publishing company, EMI Foray Music, won publisher of the year.

The song of the year nod went to "Dándole," the hit recorded by Gocho featuring Omega and Jowell, and written by Leo James under Perfect Latinos Musical Publishing.

The SESAC Latina awards are based on performance on the Billboard charts. Other awards for radio performance included "Promise," written by Rico Love (Rico Love Is Still a Rapper/EMI Foray) and performed by Romeo Santos (featuring Usher); Quítate la Venda, written and performed by EL Guero and published by Genio Musical and; "Aunque Sea en Silencio" (Cervantes Publishing), written by Jose Alfredo Cazares Rocha and performed by Enigma Norteño.

The gala featured performances by pop trio Reik and new norteño act Calibre 50. Awards were presented by SESAC Latina VP J.J. Cheng and SESAC senior VP Trevor Gale, as well as associated director Celeste Zendejas.

The Recurrent Radio performance award went to the Banda El Recodo hit "Dime Que Me Quieres," written by Miguel Angel Romero and published by Editora de Ideas. Awards were also given to the SESAC compositions that reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts, including "Promise," which topped the Hot Latin songs, Latin pop airplay and Latin tropical airplay charts.

Also recognized for topping the Hot Latin songs chart was "Intentalo," the 3Ball MTY hit co-written by Patricia Loredo Espinoza and Lina Patricia Bojorquez, and published by Latin Power Copyright. "Llamada de Mi Ex," the romantic banda track performed by La Arrolladora Banda El Limón and written by Jesús Ariel Barreras (Arpa), was honored for reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Regional Mexican Airplay chart.
