Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Call Me Maybe' Ties Gotye for Most Weeks at No. 1 This Year

Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" logs an eighth week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, tying it for the year's longest-leading No. 1. Her follow-up single, "Good Time," with Owl City, meanwhile, soars into the chart's top 15.

As it maintains its Hot 100 reign, "Maybe" matches the eight-week command of Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know," featuring Kimbra, for the longest stay atop the chart this year. Prior to the songs' back-to-back rules, fun.'s "We Are Young," featuring Janelle Monae, led for six weeks; Katy Perry's "Part of Me" led for two; Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" spent three weeks at No. 1; and, Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain" led for two. The first new No. 1 of 2012, LMFAO's "Sexy and I Know It," tallied two frames on top in January.

"Maybe" continues its Hot 100 domination fueled by a 4-2 rebound on Hot Digital Songs (179,000 downloads sold, up 9%, according to Nielsen SoundScan) and a return to No. 1 (2-1) for a sixth total week atop On-Demand Songs (915,000 on-demand streams, up 12%, according to Nielsen BDS). The latter gain grants the song the Hot 100's top Streaming Gainer award. On Hot 100 Airplay, "Maybe" descends 3-4 (109 million audience impressions, down 6%, according to BDS).

Jepsen's new track, "Good Time," with Owl City, meanwhile, roars 23-13 on the Hot 100, reaching a new peak in its fifth week. It debuted at No. 18 the week of July 14, rose to No. 17 the next week, then dipped to No. 21 the following frame. The song rebounds 12-8 on Hot Digital Songs with a 30% gain to 122,000 downloads sold; charges 40-35 on Hot 100 Airplay (33 million, up 15%); and, arrives as the highest new entry on On-Demand Songs at No. 40 (274,000, up 23%). Aiding its profile, the bouncy duet's official video premiered on July 24.

Perry's "Wide Awake" pushes 3-2 on the Hot 100, climbing 4-3 on Hot 100 Airplay (117 million, up 6%). It holds at No. 3 on Digital Songs (151,000, down 11%) and dips 6-8 on On-Demand Songs (580,000, down 11%). As previously reported, Perry makes history on the Mainstream Top 40 airplay chart this week, as "Awake" becomes her ninth No. 1, tying her with Rihanna for the most leaders in the list's almost-20-year history.

(Perhaps in Perry's favor as she angles for the Hot 100's top spot going forward: all seven of her prior trips to the chart's top two have resulted in No. 1 finishes.)

Maroon 5's "Payphone," featuring Wiz Khalifa, slips 2-3 on the Hot 100; it's resided between Nos. 2 and 3 for all 15 of its weeks on the chart. The track tops Hot 100 Airplay for a fifth frame (128 million, down 4%), while holding at No. 3 on On-Demand Songs (763,000, down 6%) and falling 7-9 on Hot Digital Songs (119,000, down 9%).

Flo Rida's "Whistle" blows into the Hot 100's top five with a 6-4 advance. The cut crowns Hot Digital Songs for a second week (237,000, up 13%), vaults 20-13 on Hot 100 Airplay (53 million, up 20%) and ascends 8-6 on On-Demand Songs (614,000, up 5%). "Whistle" is the Sunshine State rapper's third Hot 100 five hit of 2012, following the No. 3-peaking "Good Feeling" and "Wild Ones," featuring Sia (No. 5), pushing him into a tie with Perry for the most top five songs this year.

Despite dipping 4-5 on the Hot 100, Ellie Goulding's "Lights" claims the chart's top Airplay Gainer badge, elevating 6-5 on Hot 100 Airplay (109 million, up 10%). It drops 1-2 after a week atop On-Demand Songs (848,000, down 2%) and retreats 5-7 on Hot Digital Songs (122,000, down 9%).

"Whistle" looks like it could make the strongest push among the Hot 100's top five to dethrone "Maybe" next week, as it makes the largest percentage increase in overall chart points among the quintet. "Maybe" increases marginally this week; "Awake" and "Payphone" decrease by slightly larger percentages; and, "Lights" gains by less than 1% in overall Hot 100 points.

Rounding out the Hot 100's top 10, Gotye's "Somebody" drops 5-6, while the Nos. 7-10 songs remain in place: Rihanna's "Where Have You Been" (7-7); David Guetta's "Titanium," featuring Sia (8-8); Usher's "Scream" (9-9); and, P!nk's "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)" (10-10).

Outside the Hot 100's top 10, Justin Bieber's "As Long as You Love Me," featuring Big Sean, blasts 53-28 with top Digital Gainer accolades, powered by a 46-14 surge on Hot Digital Songs (78,000, up 87%). The radio follow-up to Bieber's highest-charting Hot 100 hit, the No. 2-peaking "Boyfriend," rises 60-48 on Hot 100 Airplay (25 million, up 31%) and re-enters On-Demand Songs at No. 36 (287,000, up 23%).
