SPOTIFY PREPARING BROWSER-BASED VERSION: REPORT: Spotify is preparing a " completely overhauled browser-based version of its streaming music service" that will either complement or replace its desktop application, according to a report. Spotify is the only subscription service in the U.S. that requires its users to download and install an application on a personal computer.

DRAKE, LIL WAYNE AND MARIAH CAREY TOP HONOREES AT 2012 BMI URBAN AWARDS
The Cash Money/Young Money contingent took home three of the top awards at BMI's 2012 Urban Music Awards. Drake and Lil Wayne shared honors as urban songwriters of the year, while Nicki Minaj's smash hit "Super Bass" was named urban song of the year and a salute to BMI I con honoree Mariah Carey featured producer Jermaine Dupri with performances by singers Karen Clark Sheard, Joe, Eric Benét, and Fantasia. Mac Miller also won BMI's first-ever Social Star Award.

PUSSY RIOT FEST HELD IN RUSSIA DESPITE PRESSURE:
About 1,000 people attended the "Free Pussy Riot Fest" in St. Petersberg, Vladimir Putin's hometown, headlined by the Russian rock protest bands DDT and Televizor, whose songs have long riled Soviet authorities and Putin's Kremlin. The show went forward despite official pressure to cancel it with firefighters threatening to close down Glavklub hall, claiming safety violations ahead of the concert, organizers said.

COLDPLAY JOINED BY RIHANNA, JAY-Z AT PARALYMPIC CLOSING CEREMONY
Coldplay were joined by Rihanna and Jay-Z as they played the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic games. Rihanna collaborated with the band on 'Princess Of China', the track they recorded together for Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto, and Jay-Z joined the band for a version of his 'Run This Town' and a re-worked 'Paradise.' The three-hour ceremony at the 80,000-seat Olympic Stadium in East London honored the 4,200 Paralympians from 164 nations .

Gottfried Warg is that it wasn't related to his conviction for copyright violations. He is now accused of stealing tax records. The latest report from a Swedish publication is that Warg's arrest in Cambodia nearly two weeks ago was linked to an alleged hacking of Logica, a Swedish company that provides IT services to that country's tax offices.

ADVOCATING FOR OUTDOOR CONCERT SAFETY STANDARDS: After numerous fatal accidents at outdoor concert stages collapsed, an effort to establish industrywide safety standards is gaining traction. Jim Digby, tour manager for Linkin Park, runs an organization called the Event Safety Alliance pushing the outdoor concert industry to adopt national standards not only for stage construction but also for emergency procedures during bad weather and other crises based on a guidebook published by British workplace-safety authorities that has become widely used in Britain and elsewhere in Europe.

MTV'S VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS RATINGS PLUMMET MORE THAN 50 PERCENT FROM LAST YEAR:
MTV's Video Music Awards took a nosedive in the ratings. About 6.1 million viewers tuned into Thursday night's telecast of the VMAs, dropping more than half its audience from last year's record 12.4 million haul. Usually the broadcast is on a Sunday, but its move to Thursday conflicted with President Obama's planned speech at the Democratic National Convention. Just two days before the show, the network announced the ceremony would move up one hour to avoid any direct conflict.

Led Zeppelin have begun a mysterious online countdown, fuelling speculation that they are planning a new tour. On Saturday, the group posted "FIVE" to their Facebook page, provoking thousands of comments, tens of thousands of Likes, and uncertainty about what Led Zeppelin were announcing. Fans debated five concert dates, a five-disc box set or a follow-up to the album Led Zeppelin IV? On Sunday, the band cleared things up a little, posting a new word: "FOUR." Apparently they are counting down to a bigger announcement set for Thursday, Sept 13.

Hey Romeo, Dean Brody Win Big At Canadian Country Music Awards 2012 :
More than 11,000 fans of both kinds of music -- Canadian and country -- got together under one roof on Sunday night in Saskatoon and helped make the 30th edition of the Canadian Country Music Awards a smashing success. Dean Brody was the only multiple winner of the evening, taking home album of the year for DIRT and male artist of the year. It's been a good year for Brody. His single "Canadian Girls" -- which he performed to open the show -- hit No. 1, the first Canadian country single to do so in four years.
