NICKI MINAJ, KEITH URBAN NAMED 'AMERICAN IDOL' JUDGES: Rapper Nicki Minaj and country crooner Keith Urban will officially join Mariah Carey and Randy Jackson as the third and fourth judges on the upcoming 12th season of "American Idol," according to an announcement made today by the Fox Network. The makeup of the panel has been in flux since Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez announced their exits in July.

APPLE ANNOUNCES RECORD PRE-ORDERS FOR IPHONE 5: 2 Million IN 24 HOURS: Apple today announced that it managed to rack up 2 million pre-orders for the iPhone 5 in 24 hours, two times as many as it managed for the iPhone 4S last year, which sold over 1 million devices during its first 24 hours of pre-order sales. That's a new record. Apple's pre-order sales actually went relatively smoothly this time around, with few hiccups in site performance and availability when they went live early Friday morning, by most accounts.

U.S., DRAKE TOP ILLEGAL FILE-SHARING IN NEW DOWNLOADING REPORT:
We're #1! The U.S has topped a list of the world's most prolific unauthorized BitTorrent downloaders followed by the UK, Italy and Canada according to the Digital Music Index, a new report produced by Musicmetric, a UK data and analytics company that maps the trends and preferences of music fans around the world. The U.S. had just under 96.7 million downloads and Drake is the most popular artist with BitTorrent users.

SHAZAM HITS 250 MILLIONS USERS, EXPANDS ACROSS U.S. TV:
Audio identification app Shazam announced Monday it has surpassed 250 million users worldwide and has expanded its Shazam for TV service to every channel in the U.S. With one quarter billion users, Shazam is easily one of the most common and most important music discovery tools in the world. Using Shazam with TV is old hat now. Shazam's "TV companion app" works on any TV show in the U.S.

RIHANNA, TAYLOR SWIFT RULE MTV EMA NOMINATIONS LIST:
Rihanna leads the nominations list for this year's MTV European Music Awards with six, just one more than Taylor Swift who has five. The music awards, scheduled to be held in Frankfurt, Germany Nov. 11. also sees Justin Bieber and Katy Perry notching up four nominations apiece while Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Lana Del Rey and newcomers Carly Rae Jepsen and fun., pick up three nominations each.
