Eduardo Baptista Fernandez, Head of Editorial Edimusa and Vander Music, Dies

Eduardo O. Baptista Fernández, GM of indie publisher Grupo Editorial Edimusa in Mexico and Vander Music in the United States, died of suddenly on Sept. 29. He was 39.

Based in Mexico City, Baptista Fernández was the son of Eduardo Baptista Lucio, the longtime president of Musart/Balboa. The company, one of Mexico's oldest independent labels, functions as Musart in Mexico and Balboa in the U.S. It is home to such artists as Paquita La Del Barrio, Antonio Aguilar, Alx Villarreal and Laberinto.

Baptista Fernández headed the company's publishing arm, which includes the catalog of major acts like Joan Sebastian, Chalino Sánchez, Gloria Trevi, Manuel Eduardo Toscano and Fato (who has penned many Pepe Aguilar hits).

Baptista Fernandez is survived by his wife, Ivonne; three children; his mother, Diana; and brothers Federico and Eugenio.
