Backbeat: Dean Brody Releases New Country Album, Works Retail Deal With Fossil Canada

Dean Brody, who has had a top 40 hit in Canada and the U.S., had seven nominations: Single of the Year, Video of the Year and Songwriter of the Year for "Canadian Girls" and Album of the Year for DIRT. He is also on the list for Fans' Choice Award, Male Artist of the Year and Interactive Artist of the Year.

Gord Bamford, who's had seen seven of his songs in the Canadian Hot 100, received six nominations. His single, "Is It Friday Yet?" is up for Single of the Year and Songwriter of the Year; and he's also doing battle for Interactive Artist of the Year, Record Producer of the Year, Fans' Choice Award and Male Artist of the Year,

And Jason Blaine, who won a discovery talent search by CMT in 2002 and has since had four Hot 100 hits, has half as many 2012 nominations as Reid, but is still up against him in all: Single of the Year and Songwriter of the Year for "They Don't Make 'Em Like That Anymore," Male Artist of the Year, and Record Producer of the Year for Life So Far.

Now come the gals with three CCMA nods a piece: Terri Clark, a platinum-certified act in Canada and U.S.; The Stellas, a husband/wife duo which came fourth on CMT's Can You Duet in 2009 and went on to sign with EMI Music Canada; and female-fronted Hey Romeo trio, who first busted on the Canadian charts in 2007 with a Fleetwood Mac cover.

The awards were established in 1982, by the Canadian Country Music Association, whose mandate is "to ensuring the growth of Canadian country music through education, communication, information, promotion and recognition."

At the centre of the 36-year-old organization's efforts is the annual Country Music Week that includes a music showcases and concerts, seminars, fanfest, all-star band awards, and other country-minded events, culminating in the awards show.
