Horacio Palencia won the Songwriter Of The Year award at the first annual Billboard Mexican Music Awards. But that's just the beginning.

Palencia is now on the verge of launching a solo career and making, in his own words, "musical mischief."

Palencia is working with Eddie Orjuela, founder of concert promotion company Orjuela Entertainment, which works closely with Universal and many of its artists.

Palencia has already finished recording a first album which he describes as very "complete and versatile." He is now in conversations with labels.

"My plan was never to branch out as an artist, but the time comes when one feels the need," says Palencia, who a few months earlier also won Songwriter Of The Year at the BMI Latin Music Awards. A happy Palencia walked the red carpet outside the Orpheum Theater and then picked up his award during the ceremony, which will air Oct. 27 on the Telemundo network.
