The night was all about celebrating songwriters nominated for MTV Video Music Awards, but prolific hip-hop and R&B producer No I.D. arrived at ASCAP's Rhythm and Soul team's pre-VMAs Bowling Mixer with some news of his own.

"I'm (now) executive VP of Def Jam," the producer announced. "I'm going to keep on doing what I'm doing and take it to another level.

No I.D. has worked with heavyweights such Jay-Z, Kanye West and Rihanna and said that he hopes to keep finding talent and making music.

"Def Jam is a cultural staple," No I.D. said. "It's not just a label, it's part of the culture that I came up in and that I've been involved with for 20 years. It's very important that the next generation of executives grab it by the horns and keep it on track as it grows."

As the evening went on Saturday night at the Lucky Strikes Bowling Lanes in Hollywood, the real-time trending topic quickly moved toward the Britney Spears tribute.

"I was lucky enough to work on 'Me Against the Music' with Britney and featuring Madonna," said The-Dream. "I remember being ecstatic that as an artist of her magnitude she was cutting a record of mine. I'm just very grateful for the opportunity that she gave me back then."

Abou "Bu" Thiam, a VP of A&R at Def Jam who was featured in Billboard's 30-Under-30 earlier this month, also said he thought that Spears receiving recognition for her work is merited.

"Britney has had great success in her career," Thiam said. "I think she deserves a tribute."
