ASCAP brought together eight women songwriters from Latin, country, pop and R&B to its first "Women Without Borders Song Camp," which took place Oct. 17 to 21 at Woodshed Recording Studio in Los Angeles. Sponsored by Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Gibson and Casio, the musical powwow was hosted by Claudia Brant and featured guests Jonatha Brooke, Deana Carter, Crystal Nicole, Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Natalia Lafourcade, Debi Nova and Erika Nuri.

The composers worked together in groups of two and three, penning songs and then actually recording them in the studio. "We compiled information on who was seriously looking for songs and we put together composers in groups of two and three," said Gabriela Gonzelz, senior director for ASCAP's West Coast Latin Department. "In the end, we got great songs, in English and Spanish."

The camp yielded some 20 songs that will be sent to all publishers.
