Portuguese pop star Mickael Carreira turned to two Latin producers- Rudy Pérez (Cristina Aguilera, Natalie Cole, Luis Fonsi) and Julio Reyes Copello (Jennifer López, Marc Anthony, Alejandro Sanz) to produce his fourth album, Viver a Vida . Released last May in Portugal, the set, which includes duets with Jon Secada and rapper My-Kul Leeric, has remained on the Top 10 of the AFP (Association of Record Producers of Portugal) sales list since its release and is currently at No. 5.

Now, Carreira is working again in Miami with Pérez-who was Billboard's Producer of the Decade in 2010--on his first all-Spanish set, slated for release next year. The album includes all-original material, some written by Pérez and some by Carreira himself.
How Carreira hooked up with Pérez is testament to the singer's longstanding interest in the Latin marketplace.
"I'd heard many of his albums, by artists like Luis Miguel and Luis Fonsi and I wanted to work with him," says Carreira. So, one day he called Pérez from Portugal and said he admired his work.
"I asked them to send me some links and I was very impressed," recalls Pérez. "So then I called his assistant and asked her to send me the three?????? songs that best represented his voice."
Following that exchange, Carreira flew to Miami and met with Pérez and now is a regular in his studio. While Carreira continues to be managed in Portugal by his mother, stateside his management is Bissi Entertainment, the company headed by former EMI Latin America chairman Marco Bissi, who's in the process of negotiating a deal with a major Latin label for the Spanish language release.
