The Artist 100 measures artist activity across Billboard's most influential charts, including the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, Top Album Sales and the Social 50. The Artist 100 blends data measuring album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.
Lamar hurtles 52-1 on the Artist 100 with a 686 percent increase in overall activity, as his surprise release Untitled Unmastered debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, earning 178,000 equivalent album units in the week ending March 10, according to Nielsen Music, and No. 1 on Top Album Sales with 142,000 in pure album sales.
The project was released without advance notice March 4 and gives Lamar his second No. 1 on both album lists in less than a year, following To Pimp a Butterfly. The latter set opened atop the April 4, 2015, Billboard 200 with 363,000 equivalent album units and Top Album Sales (324,000 in traditional sales), spurring his lone prior week atop the Artist 100 until this week.
Lamar's second visit to No. 1 on the Artist 100 marks the fifth-greatest vault since the chart launched in July 2014. Mumford & Sons soared 83-1 on the chart dated May 23, 2015, narrowly besting Lamar slightly more than a month after he had set the mark with an 82-1 blast.
