Justin Bieber has a strong chance of bagging his first-ever U.K. No. 1 single with “What Do You Mean,” according to the market’s chart’s compiler.

The Canadian pop singer’s comeback single has taken an early lead to top the mid-week Official Top 100 Singles Chart Update, pushing last week’s chart-topper, Rachel Platten’s "Fight Song," into second place.

Will Justin Bieber's 'What Do You Mean?' Be His First Hot 100 No. 1?

Bieber, who is enjoying a boost after performing his new song at the MTV VMAs on the weekend, has enjoyed 26 Top 40s on the Official Singles Chart thus far, and six tracks have hit the Top 10. His career best is a No. 2 peak with 2012’s "Boyfriend." He'll need to hang on another day and some to nail his first No. 1.

Meanwhile, Demi Lovato’s “Cool For The Summer” enters the Top 40 Update at No. 3, ahead of Calvin Harris & Disciples’ “How Deep Is Your Love” is at No. 4, and Jess Glynne’s “Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself” is at No. 5.
