Cuban act Gente De Zona earns the highest debut on Hot Latin Songs (dated May 16) as “La Gozadera,” featuring Marc Anthony, lands at No. 38. The entrance is primarily due to digital downloads of the track following the premiere performance of the song at the Billboard Latin Music Awards on April 29, which was broadcast live on Telemundo.
The song logged nearly 4,000 downloads sold in the week ending May 3, according to Nielsen Music, enough for a No. 7 debut on Latin Digital Songs.
Gente de Zona won six awards at the show, including Hot Latin Song of the Year, for its participation on Enrique Iglesias’ “Bailando,” also featuring Descemer Bueno. “Bailando” spent a record 41 weeks atop the Hot Latin Songs chart, more than any song in the 29-year history of the chart.
Selena Sales Soar: The Billboard Latin Music Awards also score a big sales gain for Selena, whose death 20 years ago was memorialized in a medley performance by Jennifer Lopez, alongside Selena’s family backing band Los Dinos. (Lopez portrayed Selena in the eponymous 1997 film.) Selena’s catalog of songs earned a 104 percent sales increase for the week (rising to 13,000 sold). She has five tunes on the 40-position Latin Digital Songs chart.
Lopez also steps 12-7 on Billboard’s Social 50 chart, with a 41 percent rise in chart points.
Nicky Jam Notches Latin Pop No. 1: Over on Latin Pop Songs, Nicky Jam scores his first chart topper on the list, as “El Perdon” rises 2-1. The track, which features Iglesias, is up seven percent in plays at the format. WRLX, West Palm Beach-Boca Raton helped push “Perdon” to the top, spinning the track 98 times during the tracking week (8 percent of its overall weekly spins). The single is Jam’s breakout hit, and also stands atop Hot Latin Songs for a ninth consecutive week.
