From the pre-show calls to get everyone seated to the endless procession of songwriting awards to the evening’s rap-a-long finale with up to 40 people on stage, the BMI 2013 R&B/Hip-Hop Awards, held at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom on Thursday night, was a chaotic affair.

PANDORA MEDIA STOCK SLIDES 13 PERCENT

Pandora on Thursday reported earning 4 cents a share in the most recent quarter, twice what analysts had projected. The company then said it should earn from 0- 5 cents per share for the whole year, while it had previously said it could earn as much as 8 cents per share.

Music subscription service Rdio is expanding its "freemium" business model by launching an ad-supported web service in Australia. The service previously offered a limited amount of free listening without advertisements.

Kenny Chesney leads the rest of the field this week, earning the top slot on the Hot Tours tally with box office totals reported from six venues on his No Shoes Nation tour. Concerts at three outdoor amphitheaters and three stadiums generated ticket sales of $15 million for Chesney, who is set to wrap his 2013 tour on August 24.
