The joint venture between Universal Music Group and X5 Music Group has released its first digital compilations containing the catalogs of Universal's Blue Note Records and Verve labels. The 11 releases by the U5 imprint include such legendary artists as Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk and Donald Byrd.
Under the deal, Innovative will receive an undisclosed share of advertising revenue generated by Clear Channel in exchange for licensing its catalog. The deal essentially grants the label a sound recording performance royalty for both terrestrial and digital radio, a privilege only recently enjoyed by record labels in the U.S.
Warner Music U.K. has fine-tuned its management structure following its acquisition of the Parlophone Label Group (PLG) earlier this month. Christian Tattersfield will lead the combined company as CEO, WM U.K. He also will act as co-chairman of Warner Bros. Records U.K. Miles Leonard combines a new role as co-chair of Warner Bros. Records U.K. with his responsibilities as chairman, Parlophone, reporting to Tattersfield.
