APPLE CEO TIM COOK AT D11 CONFERENCE

A tsunami of Apple news hit the interweb overnight as Apple CEO Tim Cook’s talk at the All Things D11 Conference was parsed  as if his words were from Oracle of Delphi: The Financial Times focused on Cook hinting that Apple might possibly work with platforms like Android. Elsewhere, there was much coverage of Cook’s diss of Google Glass, the company’s acquisition of 9 companies since October, the Apple TV strategy, and the company’s game-changing products.

SPOTIFY LAUNCHES “DISCOVER” FEATURE FOR ITS WEB APP

Spotify has launched Discover, a news feed that allows users to see recommendations, songs and playlists based on their favorite music. The feature, which was first rolled out last month in a limited release, is currently available on Spotify’s new Web client and will eventually be launched in the music-streaming platform’s desktop and mobile apps.

TUNEIN GETS $25 MILLION INVESTMENT IN IVP-LED FUNDING

TuneIn Inc., the digital-radio service, raised $25 million in a new funding round led by Institutional Venture Partners as the company tries to ramp up efforts to attract users and advertisers. The round, which follows a $16 million investment last year, includes existing investors Sequoia Capital, Google Ventures and General Catalyst Partners, according to the company.

HILCO TO RELAUNCH HMV BRAND

HMV’s new owner Hilco is preparing to relaunch the brand and is expected to announce a new head of marketing and a number of new marketing hires following its administration. It is expected to name a head of marketing on Friday and it is thought Jill Thomas, senior marketing manager who has been heading up HMV’s marketing activity since it laid off the majority of its marketers in February, will also leave on that day.

U.K. DIGITAL CONTENT PIRACY RISES SLIGHTLY

About 30 percent of U.K. Internet users who accessed digital content illegally streamed or downloaded films, TV shows or music at least once in the most recent quarter, for which data is available, according to British media regulator Ofcom. The quarterly report also found that 18 percent of Web users who are 12 or older - the report's focus group - illegally accessed entertainment files, up from 16 percent in the previous quarter.

INSIGHT VENTURE PARTNERS RAISES A WHOPPING $2.57 BILLION FOR NEXT FUND

Insight Venture Partners, a New York-based growth fund that’s backed Tumblr and Twitter, just raised $2.57 billion in what is likely one of the largest raises for a venture fund ever. This is their eighth fund since managing director Jeff Horing co-founded the firm out of business school in 1995. In their most recent fund before this, they had raised $1.5 billion for a fund plus a $500 million co-investment vehicle. To date, they’ve raised a collective $7.6 billion — a large uptake considering that Horing’s first fund was $16 million more than 15 years ago.

NFLPA PROBES RELATIONSHIP OF JAY-Z'S ROC NATION, GENO SMITH

The NFLPA is looking into whether rap mogul Jay-Z and his new agency violated any of the union's regulations during its pursuit of players, namely their recent signing of Jets draft pick Geno Smith. There have been allegations that Jay-Z, who is not an NFLPA certified contract advisor, might have violated regulations regarding "runners" and what kind of contact they may have with players, and what types of services they may be able to speak about (namely, marketing matters but not those related to a player contract).
