SIRIUSXM SETS RECORD QUARTERLY REVENUE, EARNINGS; JIM MEYER NAMED CEO

SiriusXM Radio turned in record revenue, earnings and subscription levels when it released first-quarter earnings on today. The company also announced that interim CEO Jim Meyer now officially has the CEO title. Meyer took over on an interim basis when longtime CEO Mel Karmazin stepped down in December.

With potentially billions of dollars at stake, competing portraits of Jackson emerged during the trial's first hours, with Katherine Jackson's attorney acknowledging the pop star's drug problems while also trying to show he was a caring son and father; AEG’s lawyer meanwhile portrayed Jackson’ as an addict who kept his drug usage secret.

PIONEERING PROMOTER BARRY FEY DEAD AT 73

Barry Fey, one of the pioneering promoters in the U.S., and highly influential in building Denver into one of the most robust live concert markets in the country, died at his home yesterday. He was 73. Fey, who worked from the late-60s until 1997, promoted such artists as Jimi Hendrix, Big Brother and the Holding Company, the Doors, Jefferson Airplane, the Grateful Dead, the Rolling Stones and the Who, among many others, as well as the "Summer of Stars" series at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

BERTELSMANN'S RTL SALE RAISES $1.8 BILLION FOR ACQUISITIONS

German media conglomerate Bertelsmann has set the placement price for part of its stake in RTL Group at 55.50 euros, bringing it gross proceeds of up to 1.42 billion euros ($1.86 billion), RTL said on Monday. Privately-owned Bertelsmann is looking for cash to fund growth as well as an overhaul of its business to catch up with rapidly-changing markets. Bertelsmann owns BMG music rights management after buying out its former partner Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co (KKR) earlier this year.

BEST BUY SELLS EUROPE BUSINESS BACK TO CARPHONE WAREHOUSE

Best Buy Co. is getting out of Europe. The electronics retailer is selling its 50% interest in Carphone Warehouse  PLC's Europe business back to Carphone Warehouse in a mostly cash deal valued at about $775 million. The sale marks Best Buy's final step to unwind a costly and unsuccessful 2008 joint venture with the U.K.-based mobile-phone chain that it launched to expand into Europe as its U.S. sales began to stagnate.

SOUNDROP LAUNCHES WEB APP

Social and interactive 'listening room' music service Soundrop has launched as a global web app in beta. The new version lets users tap into existing listening rooms based on artists, genres and moods. Via its partnership with Spotify - the streaming service's move to the web is used as a way of building out part of the audio component, and synchronising those tracks with videos from YouTube.

Trent Reznor will headline the new Mountain Oasis Electronic Music Summit from Oct. 25-27, producer A.C. Entertainment will announce today. Oscar and Grammy-winning Reznor also will perform with his other project, How To Destroy Angels. Other acts at Mountain Oasis include DJs Bassnectar and Pretty Lights, electronic music legend Gary Numan, Neutral Milk Hotel with Half Japanese, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Disclosure, Chromatics and Jessie Ware. Many more acts are yet to be announced, producer Ashley Capps said.
