Power players in the Latin music industry got a preview of both pop singer/songwriter Natalia Jimenez’s upcoming album and Barefoot Wine’s new Refresh brand on Tuesday at the second annual Billboard Most Influential Women in Latin Music luncheon. The lunch was held at the JW Marriott Marquis in Miami, where the Billboard Latin Music Conference presented by State Farm in association with Pepsi starts Tuesday.

Richie Havens, a veteran folk singer and a star of the Woodstock festival and film, died this morning at his home from a sudden heart attack. He was 72.

ITUNES LEADS SHARE OF ONLINE VIDEO MARKET (RESEARCH)

Apple’s iTunes.which launched a decade ago and within five years became the world’s largest music retailer, is now dominating the market for digital video as well, according to a report released Tuesday by the NPD Group Inc. iTunes accounted for 67% of TV show sales in terms of units in 2012, NPD estimates. For feature films, iTunes had a commanding 65% share of the market.

INTERNET TAX BILL PROCEEDS IN SENATE

The Senate on Monday voted to move ahead with a bill that could effectively end tax-free online shopping in most states, overcoming last-minute lobbying against the measure by antitax conservatives, online businesses and other critics. Lawmakers voted 74 to 20 to open debate on the measure, which would allow states to compel out-of-state merchants to collect sales tax for them. Supporters say the existing tax break robs states of revenue. Opponents, including marketers such as eBay Inc., have argued it would raise taxes on consumers and burden small businesses.

PSY'S “GENTLEMAN” HITS NEW YOUTUBE RECORD WITH 38M VIEWS IN ONE DAY

The South Korean pop star hit another mark for viral views with his new single "Gentleman," earning 38 million views in a single day as it set a blistering pace to 200 million views. Kevin Allocca, YouTube's trends manager, says "Gentleman" was viewed 38 million times on April 14, surpassing the single-day record of 30 million set by the "KONY 2012" short film. It also holds the day-of-debut record with 18.5 million views.

MERGERS & ACQUISITIONS ACTIVITY SURGES 75 PERCENT IN ENTERTAINMENT AND MEDIA (REPORT)

Mergers, acquisitions and other deal activity in the entertainment, media and communications industries in the U.S. increased to $96.2 billion in 2012 from $55 billion the year before, even as the volume of deals fell from 931 to 839, according to a PricewaterhouseCoopers report due Tuesday. The jolt was primarily due to a $20.1 billion Softbank/Sprint deal. Other big deals included Disney/Lucasfilm and acquisitions of AMC Entertainment Holdings and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

YOUTUBE TESTING YOUTUBE MIX VIDEO DISCOVERY TOOL

YouTube is experimenting with a new feature designed to help users better discover videos and channels on its site. Called “YouTube Mix”, it’s an auto-generated playlist that will display suggested videos based on what you’re reading. YouTube Mix offers users the ability to watch 50 videos continuously that it thinks they’ll be interested in. No additional work needed to click through each video one by one to watch it.

EVENTBRITE RAISES $60 MILLION FOR INDIE TICKETING

Self-service ticketing platform Eventbrite has raised $60 million in new financing led by Tiger Global Management and new investor T. Rowe Price. After this round, the company’s total funding is $140 million. While still a small player compared to Ticketmaster, today's investment comes after months of  rapid growth for Eventbrite: 100 million tickets sold across 179 countries, totaling $1.5 billion in gross sales with 1/3 of those sold within the previous 9 months. The company also announced  last month that it had doubled the total number of tickets processed to 100 million since February 2012.

TWITTER AND STARCOM SIGN AD DEAL

Twitter continued its march into the advertising world with the news on Monday that the social media company had signed a deal with one of the largest advertising agencies in the world, the Starcom MediaVest Group, part of Publicis Groupe. The multiyear deal, its value estimated to be in the hundreds of millions of dollars, comes at the beginning of the upfront season, the annual series of meetings where networks introduce their new offerings to advertisers and media buyers.
