German media giant Bertelsmann is in “advanced talks” to buy out global investment firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts’ (KKR) majority stake in their JV music company, BMG Rights Management, the NY Post reports.

WARNER MUSIC WORKING WITH IMPALA, MERLIN TO SELL PARLOPHONE ASSETS TO INDIES

In a deal designed to help win approval of its purchase of Parlophone Label Group by European regulators and increase parity between the major and indie labels, Warner Music has agreed to make some of its assets available for purchase by independent labels. IMPALA, the European label trade organization, joined Merlin, which represents indie digital rights, in facilitating the deal.

Throughout most of yesterday, singer Kelly Clarkson and Sony COO Clive Davis engaged in a public war of words concerning their 2007 dispute over Clarkson's music career as chronicled in Davis' new autobiography. Clarkson posted a no-holds-barred account of her version on Whosay saying she "refused to be bullied" (here); while Davis issued a statement later in the day saying he stands firmly by his account.

HMV SET FOR MORE STORE CLOSURES; ELTON JOHN TO PLAY IN-STORE

Forty more HMV stores are reportedly due to be announced for closure today.  That’s according to ITV which cites company staff as saying administrators Deloitte will announce the store closures this afternoon. The news regarding the retail chain comes as Universal CEO David Joseph spoke to The Guardian about artists helping the plight to save stores with high-profile in-store performances - with Elton John lined up to do so.

JACK WHITE NAMED RECORD STORE DAY AMBASSADOR, ISSUES WAKE-UP CALL STATEMENT

Record Store Day has appointed Jack White as "Record Store Day Ambassador". The annual independent record store celebration, takes place April 20 this year. To mark the appointment, Record Store Day has posted a funny three-minute video in which White gives a tour of United Record Pressing in Nashville and expounds (sort of) on conspiracy theories involving the music industry, the masons, the NBA draft, asteroids, iPhones, and donating blood. White has also issued  a statement in which he explains his desire to "wake up" the masses to the beauty of record shops, off-screen art, and face-to-face interaction in general and disses video games.

The BRIT Awards, Britain's top pop honors will be held tonight at London's O2 Arena. Several of the night’s main storylines include: Mumford & Sons, Emeli Sande and Alt-J leading nominations with three each; Amy Winehouse’s nomination for Best British Artist following her posthumous release “Lioness: Hidden Treasures; the possibility of Adele performing after last year her speech was cut short (she’s slated to play the Oscars this weekend); and The Rolling Stones receiving their first nomination in 17 years.

Live Nation has hired Jason Miller as senior vice president of talent in Asia. Miller spent over a decade at Creative Artists Agency, serving primarily as a music agent, with an emphasis on the international market. As SVP of talent in Asia, Miller will be responsible for leading talent buying across all of Live Nation’s Asian markets, including China, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore.
