The Year in Charts 2007

By Geoff Mayfield

The artist who sings "Big Girls Don't Cry" is one of the big kids in Billboard's Year In Music charts, as Fergie and Daughtry are among the 2007 leaders.

Powered by "Big Girls," Fergie is the leading Pop 100 artist of 2007 and the top selling artist on Hot Digital Songs and Hot Digital Tracks. The song is also the top title on both mentioned digital lists and the top ranked Pop 100 entry, as well as the Pop 100 song with the largest radio audience and her combined performance on The Billboard Hot 100 and The Billboard 200 make her the No. 1 Female Artist of 2007.

Daughtry, led by "American Idol" finalist Chris Daughtry, owns the top selling album on The Billboard 200 during the chart year, which ran from December 2006 to November 2007. The debut album also ranked as the best seller on Top Comprehensive Albums and Top Rock Albums, and established the band as the best selling act on all three lists. Daughtry was the most=played act at Adult Top 40, earning an artist award for that radio chart.

Beyonce also looms large with four No. 1s on Billboard's Year In Music charts. Her hit "Irreplaceable" leads The Billboard Hot 100 and Hot 100 Airplay. She is also the year's No. 1 R&B/Hip-Hop Artist (determined by combined performance on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and also tops the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs category.

Top Pop Artist is Akon. The category combines performance on The Billboard 200 and The Billboard Hot 100. Carrie Underwood emerges as the No. 1 Country artist, a field determined by overall results on Top Country Albums and Hot Country Songs.

Underwood and Akon rack up multiple No. 1s, as does Robin Thicke, who tallies five No. 1s on the year-end lists, thanks in large part to the ballad "Lost Without U."

Among label umbrellas, Zomba Music Group places the most top 10 titles, 44, on the Year In Music charts, while Interscope-Geffen-A&M/Octone has the most No. 1s with 8.

The Interscope family is the No. 1 label on The Billboard 200, The Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Digital Songs. Zomba's Jive ranks as the No. 1 imprint on both the Hot 100 and Hot Digital Songs while Sony Music's Columbia is the No. 1 imprint on The Billboard 200.
