In 1988 the American alternative rock band, The Smashing Pumpkins, formed. While they have undergone changes through the years, for most of the band's recording career the members consisted of Billy Corgan, James Iha, D'arcy Wretzky, and Jimmy Chamberlin. Their music combines elements of heavy metal, progressive and psychedelic rock, and electronica, among many other influences. Their mainstream popularity took off with their second album in 1993, Siamese Dream, followed by Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness in 1995, debuting at number one on the Billboard charts. After tremendous success the band broke up in 2000. In April 2006, they announced their official reunion with the recording of a new album. Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin were joined by Jeff Schroeder and Gingery Reyes for the touring of their new album Zeitgeist.
