'Spiceworld' To Shake Up U.K. Vid Chart?

Girl power is still going strong, as the movie "Spiceworld" appears set to top the British video chart in its first week of release, according to retail estimates Wednesday. The Hollywood Reporter writes that the Spice Girls film, which took in 11.5 million pounds at the boxoffice in the U.K., topped its distributor's estimates of 30,000 first-day sales, moving 55,000 units on its Monday release date, according to figures released by PolyGram and supported by U.K. retailers. PolyGram said it shipped 530,000 units, including 50,000 into the rental sector and about 240,000 in collector's tins featuring individual members of the group. A spokesman for Woolworth, Britain's largest video retailer, confirmed that "Spiceworld" would be its No. 1 movie this week.
