It was all in a day's work for the top-selling female recording artist of all time, and the performance remains the highest-grossing single concert in Las Vegas history. But it sure wasn't cheap to gain access. Ticket prices topped out at $2500, more than double the most expensive ticket for her 1993 New Year's Eve performance, Barbra Streisand: The Concert, at the same venue (also the top-grossing concert for that year.) Dubbed Barbra Streisand: Timeless, the millennium show traced the multitalented diva's life not only through song (conducted and arranged by longtime Streisand collaborator Marvin Hamlisch and performed by 62-piece orchestra) but also via dance, comedic monologues and poetry. Shirley MacLaine opened the evening and world-renowned tap dancer Savion Glover portrayed Father Time, transporting Babs on her journey from aspiring singer to Broadway star and Academy Award-winning actress. The second act revisited the diva's famous duets with Judy Garland ("Happy Days Are Here Again / Get Happy"), Frank Sinatra ("I've Got A Crush On You") Ray Charles ("Crying Time"), Neil Diamond ("You Don't Bring Me Flowers"), the Bee Gees' Barry Gibb ("Guilty"), Bryan Adams ("I Finally Found Someone") and even with her son via vintage video clips. "Reflecting back on my words from the last time we met," Streisand's millennium message read, "much has changed in my life. It is with a renewed sense of hopefulness and serenity that I look forward to all the adventures the next millennium will bring forth. I wish you all the joy that true love can give birth to, wisdom, compassion and happiness." |

When Barbra Streisand booked a millennium performance at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, organizers expected tickets to move fast. Instead, the venue went clean in five hours, racking up the highest one-day dollar total of any single performance in Ticketmaster's history.
