Sonic Youth are headlining the 2009 Capitol Hill Block Party in Seattle this summer.

The Capitol Hill Block Party will return once again this summer in downtown Seattle on the weekend of July 24-25. Sonic Youth, the Jesus Lizard, the Gossip, Deerhunter, The Black Lips and The Pains of Being Pure At Heart anchor this year's lineup, which will feature over 40 acts. Early bird tickets will go on sale May 1 and be available through May 15, with two day passes costing $40 and single day passes at $22. Full lineup, ticket and schedule information is available at capitolhillblockparty.com.

Now in its 12th year, the two day event has become a showcase event for many smaller acts in the Northwest region. With area festivals such as Sasquatch and Bumbershoot focusing on more established, national touring acts, this year's Capitol Hill Block Party features local acts such as the Moondoggies, Sleepy Eyes of Death, and Truckasaurus.

2008's Capitol Hill Block Party featured Vampire Weekend, Kimya Dawson and The Hold Steady and averaged 8,000 attendees per day. A portion of the ticket sales are being donated to the violence prevention organization Home Alive and The Vera Project, a youth run, all-ages venue and recording studio in Seattle.
