Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” (Interscope/Universal) started a second week at No. 1 on the U.K. singles chart yesterday, ahead of a strong debut by London indie band the Noisettes with “Don’t Upset The Rhythm” (Vertigo/Universal). Ronan Keating’s covers collection “Songs For My Mother” (Polydor/Universal) secured a second week atop the album chart.
Lady Gaga’s single, also currently in a fifth week at the top of Billboard’s Eurochart Hot 100 Singles compilation, prevented the Noisettes from a chart-topping start with their first top 40 hit. “Rhythm” opened at No. 2 and is the second single from the trio’s second album “Wild Young Hearts,” out in the U.K. Apr.20.
There were three fast movers in the new singles top ten. Beyoncé’s “Halo” (Columbia/Sony BMG) climbed 9-4, the “Slumdog Millionaire” soundtrack single “Jai Ho (You Are My Destiny)” (Interscope/Universal) by A.R.Rahman featuring Pussycat Dolls 20-5, and Metro Station’s U.S. top ten hit “Shake It” (Columbia/Sony BMG) 22-9.
Steve Angello & Laidback Luke’s remake of Robin S’ dance perennial “Show Me Love” (Data), which has a feature credit for the American singer, debuted at No. 12. The original reached No. 6 in the U.K. in 1993 and a remix hit No. 9 four years later. Lily Allen’s “Not
Fair” (Parlophone/EMI), the second single from her sophomore album “It’s Not Me It’s You,” opened on download sales at No. 16, with a physical release to follow in May. The album improved 16-6. The club crossover “Heads Shoulders Kneez and Toez” (All Around The World/Universal) by K.I.G. climbed 41-19.
Keating’s album chart reign continued as Kings of Leon’s “Only By The Night” (Hand Me Down/Sony BMG) climbed 3-2 and Gaga’s “The Fame” 7-3. The Pet Shop Boys entered at No. 4 with “Yes” (Parlophone/EMI). The Prodigy’s former No. 1 “Invaders Must Die” (takemetothehospital) moved back 12-7 and Akon’s “Freedom” (Universal) 24-8.
Meanwhile, Billboard’s European Top 100 Albums is headed for a third week by U2’s “No Line on the Horizon” (Mercury/Universal).
