Lady GaGa mirrored her current Billboard Hot 100 success by moving
to the top of the new U.K. singles chart yesterday (Jan. 11) with
"Just Dance" (Interscope) featuring Colby O'Donis. Kings Of Leon's
"Only by the Night" started a second stint at No. 1 on the album
chart.
"Just Dance" moved 3-1 to end "X Factor" winner Alexandra Burke's
three-week run at the summit with "Hallelujah" (Syco Music/Sony
BMG). That fell to No. 3 as James Morrison's "Broken Strings"
featuring Nelly Furtado (Polydor) climbed 5-2. Kings of Leon's "Use
Somebody" edged back up 6-5 while its predecessor "Sex on Fire"
held at No. 12.
The Saturdays raced 27-6 with "Issues"
(Fascination/Polydor/Universal), the Anglo-Irish female pop
quintet's third top 10 hit following "If This Is Love" and "Up."
Beyonc nothced simultaneous U.K. top 10 singles, with "If I Were a
Boy" down 4-7 and "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" up 14-8. Also
soaring into the top ten with a 40-10 climb was Kevin Rudolf's "Let
It Rock" (Universal Island), currently No. 9 on the Hot 100.
Kanye West has another U.K. top 20 hit, with "Heartless"
(Mercury/Universal) climbing 38-14 on the new survey. MGMT's "Kids"
(Columbia/Sony BMG) jumped 37-16, a new peak in its 16th chart
week.
The U.K. million-seller "Only by the Night" debuted at the top of
the album chart at the beginning of its 16-week run in October.
Moving back to the summit, "Night" ended Take That's five-week
reign with "The Circus" (Polydor/Universal), down 1-2 as Duffy's
"Rockferry" (A&M/Universal) held steady at No. 3.
James Morrison's "Songs for You, Truths for Me" (Polydor/Universal)
was the big mover on the album chart, rebounding 24-7 in its 10th
week in the wake of the success of "Broken Strings." MGMT's
"Oracular Spectacular" (Columbia/Sony BMG) reached a new peak with
a 13-8 climb, while the Ting Tings' "We Started Nothing," also on
Columbia, jumps back 26-9, having debuted at No. 1 last May. Fleet
Foxes' self-titled Bella Union debut re-charted at No. 17.
The first Eurochart Hot 100 Singles-topping artist of 2009 is Katy
Perry, who moves 2-1 with "Hot N Cold" (Virgin/EMI). AC/DC's "Black
Ice" (Columbia/Sony BMG) leads European Top 100 Albums for a
seventh non-consecutive week.
