Kid Sister's long-awaited debut album for Downtown, tentatively
titled "Dream Date," has been pushed back several times since its
original July 2008 street date. Regardless, the Chicago MC says she
will turn the album in "when I'm ready and we'll assign a date
then."
"I turned in the record initially because I was pressured by
deadlines, but I didn't feel good about it because it wasn't done.
I found myself saying, 'I wish I hadn't done that or this'," Kid
Sister tells Billboard.com. "So, I petitioned the label heavily to
take it back and do it the way I wanted to do it, and they were
supportive of it. I want a body of work that really has my stamp on
it, so, release dates be damned, I'll turn it in when I'm
ready."
The rapper says not only will the title of the album most likely
change, but the majority of the material will be new. "Everything
is moving around," she says. "Three or four of the original songs
will be on there, but everything else will be new for the most
part."
Although she wouldn't confirm which producers or guest features
will appear on the album, she did say she is working with
"different people who she hasn't worked with before."
Aside from working on the album the last couple of months, Kid
Sister has also done plenty of press for the Kanye West-assisted
lead single "Pro Nails," which first appeared on West's mixtape
"Can't Tell Me Nothing," last May. The track will appear on the
debut album, according to Kid Sister.
In addition, Kid Sister will be the new face for the Married To The
Mob clothing line campaign.
