Deftones Playing First Show Since Cheng's Accident

by Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.  |   February 06, 2009 12:59 EST
Deftones will return to the stage for the first time since bassist Chi Cheng went into a coma after a November car accident.

The group will perform April 5 at the Bamboozle Left festival in Irvine, Calif., with former Quicksand bassist Sergio Vega stepping in for Cheng. Vega previously replaced Cheng when he stepped away from the band briefly in 1999.

"Chi always wanted to keep working and never slow down, which is why we feel confident in returning to the stage at Bamboozle in April," the band says in a statement. "Chi would want it, and we want to make sure we're keeping his legacy alive."

Deftones are also continuing work on a new album, tentatively titled "Eros." A release date has yet to be announced.
