'Drama Queen' Soundtrack Showcases Lohan

Comments

The soundtrack to Walt Disney Pictures' "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen" will feature contributions from pop acts like Atomic Kitten and Nikki Cleary, pop/rock groups Simple Plan and Diffuser, plus four songs from the film's star, Lindsay Lohan. The album is due Feb. 17 from Disney's Hollywood Records label.

The 17-year-old talent contributes the title track, "Drama Queen (That Girl)" as well as the songs "What Are You Waiting For" and "A Day in the Life," the latter of which is not the Beatles song. Lohan also performs a medley that incorporates the original song "Don't Move On" with her take on Stevie Wonder's "Living for the City" and David Bowie's "Changes"

Like Hilary Duff before her, Lohan is among Disney's stable of stars with tween appeal. She recently starred opposite Jamie Lee Curtis in the remake of "Freaky Friday" and played dual roles in "The Parent Trap" redo. Like Duff, who had a breakout year in 2003 as a singer and an actor, Lohan also acts and sings. Her debut single, "Ultimate" appeared on the "Freaky Friday" soundtrack.

Along with Lohan's contributions, the "Confessions" soundtrack boasts an acoustic version of the Simple Plan single "Perfect." The original, which appears on the band's Atlantic debut, "No Pads, No Helmets... Just Balls," reached several Billboard charts, peaking in December at No. 24 on the Hot 100.

Among those contributing previously released tracks are pop/rock acts Lillix ("Tomorrow") and Diffuser ("Only in the Movies"), both of whom also appeared on the "Freaky Friday" soundtrack. On the mainstream pop side of things, the set features Cleary's "1-2-3" and Atomic Kitten's "Ladies Night," as well as tracks by Cherie and Superchick.

Based on the book by Dyan Sheldon, "Confessions" tells the story of Lola (Lohan), who suffers culture shock when she moves with her family from Manhattan to suburban New Jersey. Also starring Adam Garcia, Glenne Headley, Alison Pill and Eli Marienthal, the film is slated to open Feb. 20 in U.S. theaters.

Among Lohan's upcoming film projects is "Mean Girls," written by "Saturday Night Live" star Tina Fey, who also stars in the film. "SNL" producer/creator Lorne Michaels is producing the feature.
