Bee Gees' Sprawling 'Odessa' Set For Reissue

Comments

The Bee Gees' 1969 double album "Odessa" has been expanded for a 40th anniversary reissue, due Jan. 13 via Reprise. The three-disc set includes stereo and mono mixes of the project plus 22 unreleased tracks from the period.

"Odessa" was recorded in New York and London as the Bee Gees were ascending to stardom around the world. Perhaps inspired by ambitious, arty albums of the time from the Beatles and the Beach Boys, the Bee Gees experimented here with orchestral arrangements and thematic threads.

Among the intriguing items amid the bonus tracks are two non-album tracks ("Pity" and "Nobody's Someone"), a demo and alternate version of "Melody's Fair" and the demo for "Odessa (City on the Sea)," which has different lyrics than its studio incarnation.

The reissue continues Reprise's campaign to refurbish the Bee Gees' catalog, which began in 2006 and has so far encompassed the band's first three studio albums.

Here is the track list for the third disc of "Odessa":

"You'll Never See My Face Again" (Alternate Mix)
