Jane's Addiction Rocks Tiny L.A. Bar

Comments

The original lineup of Jane's Addiction crammed into tiny Los Angeles Mexican bar La Cita last night (Oct. 23), playing an hour-long set for a privileged crowd and fueling hopes for a full-scale reunion.

On his blog, guitarist Dave Navarro gushed about the gig, which featured some of the band's earliest songs, including "Trip Away" and "1%." Also on the set list were "Up the Beach," "Whores," "Ain't No Right," "Pigs in Zen," "Ted ... Just Admit It," "Oceansize," "Had a Dad" and "Been Caught Stealing."

Navarro singled out original bassist Eric Avery, who declined to participate in any of the Jane's reunions since the core group split in 1991. Avery "brought the bottom punk rock glue that we have been missing for years," Navarro said, before thanking the three musicians who've filled in for Avery ever since.

Navarro, vocalist Perry Farrell and drummer Stephen Perkins initially reunited with Avery for a short performance in April as part of the NME Awards in Los Angeles.

"The fact remains that this machine cannot really run as well with after-market parts," he wrote. "Jane's Addiction has to be fully stock in order to do what it does best.

"The quick non-stop pace left all of us and just about everybody drenched by the end of the hour," he continued. "Everything came together, hopefully not for the last time."
