Singer/songwriter Ray LaMontagne easily scores his best charting and sales week yet as his third album "Gossip in the Grain" (RCA) bows at No. 3 with 60,000. His 2006 set, "Till The Sun Turns Black," opened at No. 28 with 28,000, while his 2004 debut, "Trouble," moved 3,000 units in its first week, peaking at No. 189.
Metallica's Warner Bros. album "Death Magnetic" slips 2-4 with 51,000 (-23%), as Jennifer Hudson's self-titled Arista debut falls 4-5 with 46,000 (-27%). In its 54th week on the chart, Kid Rock's "Rock N Roll Jesus" (Top Dog/Atlantic) moves 45,000 on a 6% slip but ascends 7-6.
