Matisyahu Preps EP, Eyes '09 For New Album

Comments

Jewish reggae rapper Matisyahu will kick off an extensive fall tour Oct. 18 in support of a new EP, "Shattered," due three days later via Epic. A full-length album, "Light," will follow in early 2009.

"Shattered" sports four songs that will also appear on "Light": "Two Child One Drop," "I Will Be Light," "Smash Lies" and "So Hi So Lo." Matisyahu plans to treat audiences to listening parties after each show on the upcoming tour, during which he'll guide them through the songs from "Light."

"Shattered" was produced by David Kahne and recorded at studios in Jamaica, New York and Virginia. Legendary duo Sly & Robbie and Fishbone's Norwood Fisher make guest appearances.

Matisyahu became a quick sensation in 2005 with the album "Live at Stubbs," which reached No. 1 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart. Its follow-up, 2006's "Youth," reached No. 4 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 585,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The artist told Billboard last year he spent an extensive period of time working to "develop the content and the idea" of "Light," "which is a lot different than I've done it before. Before, I've just kind of listened to some music and let my free association kind of take over and just write whatever is on my mind."
