Second Lily Allen Album Due In February

Comments

U.K. pop upstart Lily Allen has penciled in a Feb. 9, 2009, release date for her as-yet-untitled sophomore album. Last month Allen wrote on her MySpace page that the album was finished but being held up by drama at EMI in the wake of its buyout by private equity firm Terra Firma.

Billboard has heard 10 tracks from the record, again produced by Greg Kurstin, and Allen sounds as lyrically confident as ever. Songs such as "Everyone's At It" and "I Don't Know" showcase a more electronic sound, with the latter song dissecting the artist's tabloid infamy.

On her MySpace blog, Allen promises "there will be bits and bobs flying around" prior to street date, including a viral video for an unnamed song. At present, she's in the studio "working on extra stuff" to augment the new album.

"I am trying really hard to do this album with integrity and I want you all to know that it has been thought about by me, not just some thrown together last minute industry bullshizz," she says.

The new album is the follow-up to 2007's "Alright Still," which has sold 514,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
