The Smiths will be the subject of yet another compilation this fall in the form of "Hang the DJ: The Very Best of the Smiths." The set is due Oct. 7 via Rhino in both single- and double-disc versions.
The regular edition includes 23 tracks presented in chronological order, beginning with "Hand in Glove" and concluding with "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me."
The bonus disc blends album tracks with B-sides, alternate versions of "This Charming Man" and "Pretty Girls Make Graves" and live takes on "Handsome Devil," "Meat Is Murder," "What's the World" and "London."
The Smiths' "Best Of Vol. 1" is its best-seller in the United States, having shifted 435,000 units since its 1992 release. The 1987 compilation "Louder Than Bombs" has sold 416,000 copies, but that number only reflects data from 1991 forward, when SoundScan began tracking point-of-sale data.
