Flobots To Rock With Rage At DNC In Denver

Comments

Up-and-coming rock outfit Flobots will play a free show today (Aug. 27) in front of a hometown crowd at the Denver Coliseum during the Democratic National Convention. The group joins previously scheduled performers Rage Against The Machine, the Coup, State Radio and Wayne Kramer.

The performance is part of the Tent State Music Festival to End the War, and is sponsored by the Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) foundation.

"Rage Against The Machine is one of the greatest bands of the last 20 years and they are one of my favorite bands. It also means a great deal for us to be able to support IVAW," Flobots member Jesse Walker tells Billboard.com.

"The group tries to secure immediate withdrawal from the war, support for the reconstruction and end of what's going on in Iraq," he continues. "The things they stand for are things we believe in very strongly."

Flobots have always been concerned with social change, according to Walker. The group has a social networking site, fightwithtools.org, where people can find out about events in their communities and register to vote, among other activities.

"Lots of people in this band didn't care about being rock stars," Walker says. "We're all kind of natural activists, even first before being musicians."

Flobots' Universal debut, also dubbed "Fight With Tools," has sold more than 220,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Album track "Handlebars" has proven a big hit, having shifted 743,000 downloads.
