Lily Allen Confused Over New Album Delay

Comments

U.K. pop star Lily Allen has expressed confusion over the release of her sophomore album amid the current changes at EMI.

The follow-up to her 2006 album "Alright, Still" (Regal/Parlophone) is due at some point in the fourth quarter or early next year. The as-yet-untitled record will be issued on Capitol in the U.S.

"It has been finished for a while now, I don't really know what's going on with it," said Allen in a posting on MySpace. "The record industry is a very political place at the moment and I am on EMI Records. Lots of people have been fired or have taken redundancy recently as the company was taken over by a private equity firm called Terra Firma."

Billboard has heard 10 tracks from the record, again produced by Greg Kurstin, and Allen sounds as lyrically confident as ever. Songs such as "Everyone's At It" and "I Don't Know" showcase a more electronic sound, with the latter song dissecting her tabloid infamy. New demos have also been posted on MySpace, each racking up between 250,000 and one million plays.

Allen adds, "Many of these people were people assigned to my projects and now I don't quite know what's going on. I'm sure everyone will find their feet soon enough and I'll be able to put the album out soon."

EMI did not comment on Allen's remarks.
