Anastasio Orchestral Piece Debuting In Nashville

Comments

An orchestral work penned by Phish frontman Trey Anastasio and Orchestra Nashville composer-in-residence Don Hart will premiere Sept. 27 at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium.

"Time Turns Elastic," on which Anastasio has been working for the past 18 months, blends voice and guitar with orchestral passages in a vein said to resemble Phish epics such as "The Divided Sky" and "Fluffhead."

Anastasio and Hart first collaborated at Bonnaroo in 2004, and again on Anastasio's 2006 album "Bar 17."

"I've never come close to the collaboration I've had with Don Hart," he says. "A lot of work done on this piece is conceptual conversations. It's a true collaboration."

There's no word yet on whether "Time Turns Elastic" will be released in some form.

After a 2007 arrest on drug charges, Anastasio has been slowly easing himself back into live performance. He performed over the 4th of July weekend at the first Rothbury festival in Michigan, during which he also collaborated with former Phish bandmates Mike Gordon and Jon Fishman, and will appear Aug. 10 at the All Points West festival in New Jersey.
