Coldplay, Dizzee Rascal Still Rule U.K. Charts

Comments

Coldplay's run atop the U.K. album chart with "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends" (Parlophone/EMI) extended into a fifth week yesterday (July 13), while Dizzee Rascal's "Dance Wiv Me" (Dirtee Stank), featuring Calvin Harris & Chrome, began a second week at No. 1 on the singles survey.

Duffy's "Rockferry" (A&M/Universal) held at No. 2 again on the album survey, and Chris Brown's "Exclusive" (Jive/Sony BMG) at No. 3. The Ting Tings' former No. 1 "We Started Nothing" (Columbia/Sony BMG) climbed 6-4, while Florida rock band the Black Kids scored the highest new entry of the week at No. 5 with their debut album, "Partie Traumatic" (Almost Gold/Mercury). The other top 10 newcomer was Beck's "Modern Guilt" (XL Recordings) at No. 9.

Publicity surrounding the new "Mamma Mia" movie helped ABBA's "Gold -- Greatest Hits (Polydor/Universal) rocket 43-12. Two other big sellers climbed again in the top 20, with Madonna's "Hard Candy" (Warner Bros.) up 24-14 (as the single "Give It To Me" edged 18-17) and the Last Shadow Puppets' "The Age of the Understatement" (Domino) moving 40-15 (as its second hit "Standing Next To Me" debuted at No. 30).

Dizzee Rascal's single withstood the challenge of Basshunter's "All I Ever Wanted" (Hard2Beat), which climbed 3-2 as "No Air" (Jive/Sony BMG) by Jordin Sparks featuring Chris Brown reversed last week's 3-4 move. Ironik's "Stay With Me" (Asylum/Warner Music) improved 6-5 and the big top 40 debut of the week was Kid Rock's "All Summer Long" (Atlantic/Warner Music), up 46-6. The song is already a big pan-European hit, standing at No. 1 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and at No. 2 on Eurochart Hot 100 Singles.

Also on the new singles chart, teenager Gabriella Cilmi's durable debut hit "Sweet About Me" (Universal Island) climbed 9-8 in its 19th chart week, while Nickelback's "Photograph" (Roadrunner) jumped 29-18.

This week's No. 1 on the Eurochart is U.K. R&B singer Estelle's former British chart-topper "American Boy" (Homeschool/Atlantic), featuring Kanye West. The Coldplay set is in a third week at No. 1 on European Top 100 Albums.
