After serving eight months at the Rose M. Singer facility in New York's Rikers Island, Foxy Brown will be released from jail on April 18, according to her manager Chaz Williams.
"She did every single minute of her bid in jail, and she did it under the most severe conditions," Williams tells Billboard.com. "They had her on continuous lockdown just because she is a celebrity. They were trying to break her spirit."
While Williams attributes Brown's isolation to her celebrity status, Deputy Commissioner of Public Information Stephen Morello says the rapper was placed in protective custody per her request. "It is not unique for us to house some inmates separately from the rest of the jail population because their prominence or other circumstances might make them targets. In the case of Ms. Marchand, her detention in a 'protective custody' environment was at her request," he told Billboard.com.
Williams revealed that Brown, born Inga Marchand, is in talks with a couple of television networks for a potential documentary and reality show on her life.
Upon her discharge, Brown will also prep for the release of her oft-delayed album, "Brooklyn's Don Diva," now due May 13 via Black Rose Entertainment/Black Hand/Koch. "She's going to get on top of her career again. She's ready to hit the ground running and do anything she needs to do to get her career back on point," says Williams.
As previously reported, Brown was sentenced on Sept. 8, 2007, to a year in jail for violating her probation after several arrests, including an altercation with two nail salon employees in August 2004 and assaulting a neighbor with a BlackBerry cell phone.
