Elton John Backing Elvis Costello TV Show

Comments

Elvis Costello has signed on to host a new Sundance Channel TV show, "Spectacle: Elvis Costello With ...," which will be produced in conjunction with Elton John's Rocket Pictures production company.

The show, which will feature 13 one-hour episodes, will also air on CTV in Canada and Channel 4 in the United Kingdom. FreemantleMedia Enterprises will handle further international sales.

"I'm not interested in extracting some dark secret," Costello says of the show. "I'd rather hear about a bright secret, a deep love or a curiosity that might be otherwise obscured by fame. This is a wonderful opportunity to talk in complete thoughts about music, movies, art or even vaudeville, then frame it with unique and illustrative performances."

Costello previously filled in for David Letterman while the CBS "Late Show" host was recovering from shingles in 2003. "I thought it would be sensational to use his knowledge and intelligence to explore the artistry of musicians and other fascinating people involved in making great music, as well as true music aficionados," John says.

A portion of proceeds from the show's income will be donated to the Global Fund's work on AIDS relief in Africa.

In other Costello news, his next studio album with the Imposters, "Momofuku," now has a release date on CD. The 12-track project arrives first on vinyl on April 22, but a CD release will follow on May 6.

Here is the track list for "Momofuku":

"No Hiding Place"
"American Gangster Time"
"Turpentine"
"Harry Worth"
"Drum and Bone"
"Flutter and Wow"
"Stella Hurt"
"Mr. Feathers"
"My Three Sons"
"Song With Rose"
"Pardon Me Madam, My Name Is Eve"
"Go Away"
