Rage, Metallica Rock On At Reading, Leeds

Comments

American alternative rock giants Rage Against The Machine, Metallica and the Killers are the headliners for this summer's Reading and Leeds Festivals.

The bill for the three-day event alternates between the two U.K. sites from Aug. 22-24. Undercards on the main stage include Queens Of The Stone Age, Bloc Party, Tenacious D, the Raconteurs, the Fratellis and Slipknot.

It's the first time in a decade that the dual event won't carry a sponsor's name in its title. British beer brand Carling and organizer Festival Republic last November called time on a nine-year branding partnership for the annual festivals, which traditionally takes place over the August Bank Holiday.

Reading is the longest-running U.K. festival, with its origins in the National Jazz & Blues Festival in Richmond in 1961. The event settled on the name Reading Festival in 1971. The alternative leg in Leeds, north England, launched in 1999.
